How is technology changing the nature of secret shopping? Will there come a time that you will see a screen on the charge card swiper at stores that asks you to rate your shopping experience? There are already automated surveys that are tagged onto phone conversations.

Will web cams mean that one person sitting at home can monitor the customer interactions at a group of stores giving real-time feedback to the sales and service staff on how to handle situations more effectively? There are already plenty of businesses monitoring their remote locations by web cam. Most are still just using the images to look for anomalies and policy discrepancies.

Will biorhythm monitors attached to a store staff person alert a supervisor when indications of stress are relayed? There are already body monitors that you can wear while jogging or taking a stroll that will call 911 for you if your heart rate jumps into “fear” or “distress” mode.
