The Shadow Shopper

Sometimes a secret shopper is called a shadow shopper. It has a nicer ring to it, does it not? It sounds more comic bookish. Picture a mysterious dark figure sneaking around in the shadows fighting for consumer justice. This is what a secret shopper, or for this purpose a shadow shopper does. They investigate self storage property managers and other people in the customer service industry to make sure customers are receiving the best customer service qualities that are expected from their company. They may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but they can solve a self storage business customer service issue with a single phone call.

Like most super heroes, a shadow shopper hides his or her true identity. Not with a disguise like a pair of glasses, but by dressing like a real live customer. In plain street clothes they walk and talk like a real potential customer to take on challenges most people are too weak do themselves. They confront the evil of bad customer service. Where others turn away from the threat of mistreatment, a shadow shopper is able to reflect the abuse with his evaluating mind.

The shadow shopper receives his assignments from needy self storage industry leaders who seek to stop corruption and poor customer service which has infected even the best and most honest employees. Even the best property managers fall under the spell of the exhaustion of repetitiveness. Their sales techniques become stale from the forces of passive supervision. However, there is a person to call to stop and prevent such situations. That person is the shadow shopper, the leading actor of all shoppers.

When the shadow shopper has completed the first stage of his task, he reveals his identity. At first the property manager is in shock, but he recovers from the mystery shoppers offer of sales tips. The shadow shopper is the kind of hero that tries to revive the life of a good property manager. With his feedback, he breathes new life into the property manager which he can now use during the very next sale. Now the world is a much better place. A shadow shopper would be a passionate hero if he was featured in a comic book. Why? He gives customer service representatives and property managers a second chance. Most companies that do not use secret shopping fire their slumping employees instead of offering them a new beginning. The power of feedback should not be underestimated. A property manager can learn a lot about himself and his sales techniques during a mystershopping exercise. It is not just an evaluation. It is a never ending training program that prevents evil from taking over a property managers soul in the first place. If more companies called on a shadow shopper to keep watch over their business, customers would have a hard time choosing where to shop.
