The Dirt on Secret Shopping

Secret shoppers are not short of secretshopping stories. Some are good and some are bad. But who cares about the good stories. Everyone wants to hear the bad. Tabloids are in business for one reason and one reason only. People want to hear the dirt. Every secretshopping blog site, including this one, is going to tell you how great it is to be a secret shopper. And they do not lie, however like every job it is going to have its bad days. So to increase our readership this secretshopping blog is going to reveal the dirt on secretshopping. So listen up. This is your last chance to get the scoop. After this blog we go back to the old ways of doing things by talking only about the positive qualities of secretshopping. But for now enjoy some of the worst things that could happen to you while secretshopping.

What do secret agents, or spies fear the most while on the job? They fear getting caught. They are scared of their cover being blown. This can happen while on a secretshopping mission. Secret shoppers get caught. Now, do not become too scared. You are not going to be tortured or jailed like a secret agent who gets caught in an espionage scandal, but you will suffer from embarrassment for just a short time. You do want to be careful about one thing. Do not get caught by the same property manager twice. Otherwise, the property manager will think you are stalking him or her and jail time is possible.  

The secretshopping stories about the excellent salesperson are always kept secret. We always hear about the bad ones and never the about the good ones. This is because a salesperson could be so persuasive that you might buy something you do not want. You were just supposed to go into the store and evaluate the performance. Now you are stuck with some tube socks and a padded toilet seat. It might not be the worst thing that could happen, but it is bad.

Secretshopping agencies just tell you to go to a restaurant and evaluate the performance of the staff. What they neglect to tell you about is the possibility of bad food, food so bad that you would consider drinking a pint of hot sauce called the atomic bomb just to get the taste out of your mouth. Again, it might not be the worst thing that could happen, but it is pretty bad.

When a secret shopping agency sends you on a secretshopping assignment it comes with little directions, driving directions that is. With all of the fast food restaurants and retail chains, one could easy get confused with which location is your assignment. Just think of the frustration and embarrassment when you hand in an evaluation about the wrong location. Some secret shopping agents can just rub it off by saying it happens to everyone. Still, it happened to you. Though the embarrassment will eventually diminish it does not mean it will not happen again. 

Unfortunately, secret shoppers can not pick and choose their secretshopping assignments. So, do not be surprised when one day your assignment is to buy some diarrhea medicine. It is not such a big deal but your job is to have an interaction with an employee. Now you have to ask about which one is the best for your awful condition. Then maybe you bump into a chatty neighbor and the embarrassment is running out of control. This may just be the worst thing that could happen on a secretshopping mission.
