Stay At Home Moms
-
If you are a stay at home mom , you might feel as if you never have a moment to yourself during the day. A stay at home mom begins her day early in the morning, and does not have an eight hour work day like everyone else. The day of a stay at home mom does not end from the moment she wakes up until the moment her children are in bed, and even after that, there are things to do.
Do you think it would make the day a little bit easier if, as a stay at home mom yourself, you could actually find a few minutes together every day for your own sanity, your own enjoyment alone? There are activities you can set your children to that could possibly give you this precious alone time you crave.
If you have an infant, you will know that your alone time will most likely come when your baby is sleeping, which can be much of the time if he is very young. But after your child is about six months or so old, it can get rather tricky, as a child this age can require every ounce of your attention, every hour of the day. Try to get your child to take naps as long as possible throughout their childhood. On days you feel active, do something for yourself during his naptime. On days you feel exhausted, take a nap with your little one to get refreshed for the rest of the day.
If you have an only child, who has no other siblings to help entertain him, you will want to find those things that a single child can do easily by himself, such as puzzles, one person games, and even if you are in a desperate mood, a short childrens television show or cartoon. If you have more than one child, it is easier to get them to play without your involvement, thus giving you a chance to relax a bit, or get something done that cannot wait. Of course if you get really frantic for that me time, you can always make an emergency call and drop your child off at one of his friends houses for the afternoon.
Once your children are older, try to get creative. Ask them to write a story about the day they had, or at least a list of the things they accomplished or enjoyed throughout the day at school or with friends. To encourage together time while also accomplishing something, have your children do their homework at the table while you also sit at the table with work you have to do, such as balancing the checkbook. Although you will each be doing your own individual work, being physically near each other can give you a sort of bond as well.
Crafts are always a wonderful idea to fall back on. Have your children sit together and clip photos or words out of magazines to position and paste into a collage or scrapbook. Give them subjects to go by, such as these are my favorite things, or what I want to be when I grow up. Tell them to make up a comic strip with their own illustrations, or perhaps write a fictional story. You can give them the beginning line and let them go from there, i.e. There was once a boy who could fly.
A stay at home mom needs time to refresh and reorganize her thoughts and herself just as much, if not more, than everyone else. Make sure you make that time for yourself!
