High level executives and high profile celebrities enjoy the luxury of employing a paid shopper. Duties of a paid shopper may be to pick up the dry cleaning, stock the pantry and do the grocery shopping. A paid shopper may also be in charge of picking up items purchased online and performing the day to day tasks that business men and women do not have the time for. Celebrities may also enjoy the convenience of having a paid shopper on their staff for the times when they do not feel like going to the store and running the risk of being mobbed by fans or paparazzi. Sometimes, the duties of a paid shopper are delegated to a nanny or maid rather than hired out to a separate individual.
Another type of paid shopper is also sometimes called a personal shopper. Such an individual may be in charge of selecting and purchasing the wardrobe for his or her employer. This kind of paid shopper is more like an image or fashion consultant and it will be his or her duty to clad the client in all the latest fashion trends as the seasons change. Such a job as this form of a paid shopper seems like a glamorous lifestyle, however, it is very hard work and carries a lot of stress for the paid shopper. The paid shopper must stay current on what the fashion dos and donts are. He or she could also quickly be replaced if they create a fashion faux pas or embarrassing moment for his or her client. And once the reputation of a personal or paid shopper has been tarnished, it is very hard to recover.
Yet another form of paid shopper is the highly coveted secret shopping career. A paid shopper, or secret shopper, could have a number of jobs ranging from mystery shopping hotels and travel agencies, secret shopping fine dining restaurants or fast food chains, to mystery shopping retail shops. A paid shopper is typically trained in his or her area of expertise.
For example, a paid shopper for a hotel or travel agency might have a degree in hotel and hospitality administration. The paid shopper should also have specialized training from the mystery shopping organization for which they work. A paid shopper has a keen eye and is trained to spot things like trash on the floor or unclean facilities. A paid shopper may also report facts such as how many other guests were at the service counter and how quickly he or she was assisted. The paid shopper should report that cleanliness, customer service and satisfaction of all services back to the employer or client. In most cases, the paid shopper is not a direct employee of the facility they are shopping. He or she may be an independent contractor for the company or work for a third party mystery shopping provider.
Yet another form of being a paid shopper is being a telephone mystery shopper. A paid shopper for telephone mystery shops might work in customer service, call center and telephone sales industries. Industries that rely heavily on phone skills are customer service centers for large corporations, telemarketing for outbound call centers, sales positions for inbound call centers, help desks such as computer solution centers and more. Typically, a paid shopper for a telephone mystery shopping job is paid a commission for each secret shop completed and works as an independent contractor for a secret shopping provider.
