Secretly Shopping For The Perfect Gift

  • Gift shopping is a very dreaded task for most of us. When you are buying a gift for a friend or member of the family, you desire for it to be something creative, something that is exactly what your friend would like. At the same time, you do not want the gift to be something that they are expecting, something they might possibly already have, or something that they would hate. You can tell a polite smile from a truly overjoyed grin, and you know which you would like to see on the face of your friend when he opens the gift you give him.

But how to find such a gift? When you initially go shopping for this gift, there are several things you should try to consider before deciding, or even venturing out in the first place. The first thing to consider is your friends personality. If you already have a gift in mind, try to actually see your friend using this item. Does it seem like it is for him? Does it seem like something that he would truly use in his everyday life?

Secondly, have you ever actually heard your friend say that he wanted something in particular? Not necessarily a direct request, but just something they like in passing that you, being the attentive friend that you are, happened to note. A gift like this is often much more appreciated than something that someone has directly requested to get. It proves that you are not just a robot, shopping for something someone else has told you about, but that you are observant and thoughtful, not to mention creative! If your friend has expressed interest in anything in the past few months, think back on what it was, and decide if it would be an appropriate gift for him.

Also, when shopping for a gift, you must make certain beforehand that your friend does not already have this particular item. You may be friends, but many things can go unnoticed. Next time you visit him, observe his house for this item, or casually and non-suspiciously bring it up to find out.

There are the obvious guidelines to follow when shopping for a gift. Consider where your friend lives. If he is nowhere near a body of water, you probably should not consider getting him a water sport gift. Also, for instance, if your friend lives in an apartment or a rental house, you should probably not consider getting him a dog or a cat!

What does your friend like to do in his spare time? What are his hobbies and interests? You, as his close friend, are the best candidate for answering these questions, and should follow your answers to finding the perfect gift. Does he enjoy fishing? How about getting him a fishing jacket, or bait? Does she enjoy scrapbooking? Go to a scrapbooking store and find a gift bag of various things for her there. When you look at a gift from this angle, the options are limitless. Usually, everyone has a hobby, or at least something he or she is interested in. Find it, and go from there. Gift cards and money are too easy. As a friend, you can do better than that. Observe your friend and his interests and way of life, and go find that gift!
