Welcome to the secret shopping blog, where we keep a diary of our experience in the world of secret shopping and mystery shopping.
Repetitiveness Repetitiveness Repetitiveness Repetitiveness Repetitiveness
I was thinking yesterday about job repetitiveness. Most jobs that I could think of had some definite repetitiveness. Factory jobs, assembly line, and switchboard operator are just a couple of jobs that came to mind that have a daily repetitiveness. But, then as I am trying to expand on the job list I am hard pressed to think of a job that doesn’t have some repetitiveness in the daily routine. So, whether it is answering phones for eight hours a day or driving a trash truck all over town, people have a certain repetitiveness that they are trained to do while on the job. We are trained to repeat certain actions with a favorable outcome.
While I was making some Secret Shopping calls I had a thought that some of the lower scoring evaluations might be the result of job repetitiveness. Some people act like they are bored to answer the phone. “Just another phone call,” is the mood that is set on some calls. Sometimes it changes after the initial greeting; you can hear a little spark in their voice, sometimes not. It’s a curious thing if you think about it. The job that you were hired and trained to do, somewhere along the line becomes a bore. The evaluations that consistently score very high always act as if the caller is the number one priority and they devote that call to helping them. I hear it every month. Certain people and certain areas have great customer service. You can pretty much bet on it before the evaluation is done.
It would seem to me that if you have any contact with people as customers whether it is in person or on the phone, you could not be bored. You never know who is going to walking through the door or call you. It is like a mini adventure everyday. “I wonder who I will help today, what they are like and what their story is.” If you can’t get through the day without being completely bored then maybe you are in the wrong job.
Thanks,
Natalie
