You can try and please all the people all the time. Good Luck.

The other day, we went to a local eatery that has large viewing TVs and surround-sound in the booths. It’s a pretty cool place to watch your favorite sporting program. When we arrived, we asked if the NASCAR race would be on the big screen. They said it would be and then they sat us up front and center to the big screen. (It’s more like a huge theatre screen) There are lots more flat screen TVs conveniently placed throughout the room so you can watch different programs at once.

Once you decide which TV to watch, you can dial in to the sound of the TV and it stays in your booth, kinda like a mini theatre. So we are watching the race and the server checks on us occasionally, she even comments that a lot of requests were made for the race to be on. It’s early afternoon and the place has about 10 tables eating lunch, soon after that the big screen gets changed. Yes, I said they changed the channel! The server comes right over and says, Sorry….some people wanted to watch the baseball game and that it took precedence over the race. WHAT?!

Ok, so the server fumbles around with what to do and we tell her that we will move one table over to where we can see a very much smaller screened TV with the race on it. As soon as that table leaves, they clean it and we move over. We get settled in and continue to watch the race. As the day goes on there are less and less people around. But we are still spending money on food and drinks. And by the end of the race we are the only table left, still watching the show that we came there to watch. We felt a little jilted. But I think they were trying to please all the baseball people this time.

I would bet they knew the game would be coming on, they could have informed the servers and then sat people where they would be most comfortable. Baseball on the big screen… sit those people in the center. Other programs… sit them where they can see their show. There should be a fair way that all the people get pleased, and I think they should work on it.

They say if you are pleased with something you will tell a few people, but if you are displeased you will tell lots of people. Which you do want your customers to be doing?
