    If you are trying to save yourself a little bit of money as you are calling around for your self storage unit, then there are a few things that you are going to want to keep in mind.  Sure, you can grab yourself a few discounts and hope for the best, but your results are going to be a lot better if you follow the system that I propose.  By following this system, you are going to be able to rest assured that you have saved yourself as much money as possible at the end of the day.

    The first thing that you are going to want to do, here, is make sure that you are reading the classified ads in your local paper.  If a property is trying to rent its self storage units out very quickly, then you might find that they are posting smaller little ads in the classifieds section of the local paper.  Of course, these are units that should always catch your eye, because you are going to be able to save yourself quite a bit of money when you decide to use one of these.  Just be sure that it is going to be able to fit all of your needs, and you are golden.

    Moving on, here, you are go;ing to want to be sure that you are checking all of the corporate websites of the companies that are in your local area.  Sure, you can check around on the price aggregators, but a lot of the time, you are going to find that the biggest companies in your area only offer their coupons on their own sites.  Thus, before you begin to call around, you are going to want to be sure that you have checked all of these sites, and that you have printed out the coupons that you have found on them.  Have them in your hands as you call around to get your first round of pricing information.  In my personal experience, I have always found the best specials hosted on these kinds of proprietary websites.

    Of course, you are also going to want to be sure that you are checking around for the facilities that have short term leases.  The best way for you to save money, here, is to make sure that you are not commiting yourself to a long stay that you are not going to need.  If you call around and find yourself a month to month lease, then you are not going to have to worry about getting stuck with your unit for longer than you had wanted.  You will be able to rest assured that you are not spending a dime too much on your self storage unit at the end of the day.

    Finally, reader, you are always going to want to be sure that you at least stop in at some of the larger aggregate sites.  These sites are going to spend all of their time hunting down deals, so they are a great way to make sure that you have not left any stones unturned, as the saying goes.  You should not base all of your research on these sites, but they are nice to use every now and again.

    And there you have it, reader.  Savings are not hard to come by when you know what you are doing.

    From time to time, I find that my spending actually upsets me.  I mean, I will be looking over my online checking account and I will come up several hundred dollars short of where I thought I would.  As you can imagine, this is a rather jarring experience.  Sometimes, I forget about bills that I had to pay, or I forget that a rent check was due.  Recently, though, I have found the solution to my problem.  Recently, I have started using a digital financial planner to help me keep track of my spending.  To those of you self storage customers out there, you might find that these tools make it much easier for you to set a monthly budget.

    When you are shopping around for a good self storage unit, chances are that you are operating on a budget.  Chances are that you are not going to want to rent a unit that is going to pose much of a threat to your monthly budget.  Of course, without using a digital financial planner, you may not know exactly what your monthly budget is.  I know that I was definitely guilty of this lack of foresight at one point in my life.  I knew roughly how much money I had in my checking account, but I did not know exactly how I was spending it.  As you can imagine, switching over to the digital planner made it much easier for me to get a grip on where I could cut back my spending and make room for the things that I actually needed.

    These planners are really, really simple, actually.  Typically speaking, you can link them up with your online checking account and they will track your spending automatically.  This, if you ask me, is a pretty amazing service.  Every time that you buy food, gas, or luxury items, your digital planner is going to keep track of the purchases that you made.  At the end of the month, you are going to receive an email report detailing exactly how you spent your money.  It will break these categories down for you, explaining where you can afford to cut back.  As you can imagine, this makes it very, very simple to set a budget.  Thus, when you head out there to rent your self storage unit, you are going to know exactly how much money you have to spare.

    This much being said, you have to be careful with these services as well.  Before you rely on them entirely to set your budget, you are going to want to be sure that you check out the numbers for yourself and make sure that they actually match up with reality.  Likewise, you are going to have to be sure that you are paying for some identity theft insurance.  You are, after all, giving a third party company access to some very personal information, i.e. credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and the like.  So long as you are willing to take these steps, though, you are not going to have to worry about a thing at the end of the day.

    I cannot recommend these services highly enough, reader.  Without risk of exaggeration, I can tell you that they have truly changed my life for the better.  My finances have never been healthier.
