Mystery Shopping Jobs

  • Our story begins in a little town in the upper left corner of the Midwest in a small town where only thirty people, their families and the person who puts out those population signs on the side of the highway knows exists. This small town possesses all the things that anyone could want or desire. There is a gas station and there is a, ok, there is only a gas station. If you want to have a decent meal with your family or want a home cooked meal, you will have to travel about forty five minutes south to the next large city to get the ingredients. So when you want that number 2, large with an orange soda extra value meal, you will have to pay some money for gas and it will be cold by the time you get home. Bummer.

In this small town, everyone knows that they have to leave in order to make something of yourself. Not everyone in this town of thirty can work at the single gas station in town. Most people live in this town because the cost of living is cheap and the commute is not as bad as most people think, but it is no place to make a living.

Curtis Newby was in a situation in which he had to make a decision that could shape his life. He is trying to pick up some extra money while he is going through college so he could make ends meet. He decided to look in the local newspaper to see what was out there in which he could work part time to make ends meet.

He found an ad in the paper that sparked his interest, but he did not know anything about the profession. He was very interested but he did not know how to proceed. The ad is stated below.

Mystery shopping agency. Do you want to make some good money? Do you like to shop? Do you like to critique others to help them improve? If this is you then companies need you. Mail in your resume to the address below and place boldly, Mystery shopping agency attention Jim on the front of the envelope.

So Curtis being the resourceful person he is, he reverse searched the address and gained the phone number of the agency. He called and talked to Jim, from the ad, to better understand what the mystery shopping agency does. To the delight of Curtis, Jim was very explanative and helped him understand what the mystery shopping agency does.

Jim explained that they have many clients who request their services to go out and evaluate their business and customer interaction. He went on to say how they pretend that they want to use the services or products the company their shopping has and then listen, evaluate, and send your findings to the company to make some changes in how they do business. The key is that the person is being shopped, can not know that you are not a real customer. You will have to quick on your feet to react to what they say.

At first Curtis did not think he could do it because he was not that good with making up stories or thinking quickly on his feet. He remembered what Jim said in terms of pay out per shop he completed, and that enticed Curtis more than anything. So Curtis decided to send in his resume and give it a try.

It was one of the best decisions that Curtis could have made for himself. With having three years left of college to go through, Curtis made enough money with the mystery shopping agency to where he could pay for his gas, his apartment and some gifts for his family for Christmas. He has not been able to buy Christmas gifts for his family before. Curtis graduated with a business degree and the mystery shopping agency was so impressed by his level of professionalism, business sense, and passion, they offered him a job right out of college as a major contributor to the mystery shopping agency .

Curtis could not be more pleased with how things turned out. He thought to himself, that he would not be where he is today, if he did not decide to respond to an ad in the paper. He would still be in his small town, going to that single gas station for a snack, wondering what he was going to do with his life.
