Have you ever wondered what a secretshopper does? Have you ever wondered what such a job entails? Usually, retailers hire other companies, such as marketing research, to evaluate the quality of services within their individual stores. These marketing research companies in turn hire a secretshopper to make mystery visits to these stores and observe what the service and products are like.
Usually, this job is only a part time position. The hours are basically at your command, and you may shop at various locations that are given to you whenever you have free time. On some rare occasions a secretshopper have made this more of a full time career. This generally only works if you are willing to put many miles, time and effort into the job.
When trying to get into this type of work, you should begin by knowing that it is unnecessary to pay anyone or any company. Almost all companies in this line of work hire a secretshopper for free. If you are asked to give a type of down payment or any money at all, you should be wary. It is most likely a scam. You do not need to pay a fee for any type of initial information, nor do you have to pay money to become a candidate for employment by one of these companies. There is an online list of companies that will hire you for free. Many times, companies will accept online applications as well.
In short, what a secretshopper does is travel around to various stores and performs assurance or service evaluations. This can be at an enormous variety of places, including clothing stores, restaurants, gas stations, hotels, amusement parks, etc. For many such jobs, the company you are employed by will only reimburse you for what you have to spend. A lot of times there is no upfront money, or additional money involved. It is not a simple exchange of eating for money. You are usually expected to have a very hasty turnover, and return a complete report within a day or two. There are many details that these marketing companies want you to remember, and usually you will not remember them if you wait longer than a day to fill out the necessary paperwork.
If you take up a job like this, you must remember that the assurance of quality you are seeking should not be based upon your personal opinion of what the service should be. The company you are working for will give you a list of what and what not to look for at certain places. Follow these specific guidelines, and try to be objective.
Confidentiality is very important with this type of position. Most companies will have you sign a contract or agreement stating you will keep all of your observations, reports and findings confidential. Also, you must not let yourself be known as an undercover shopper when you visit stores. The purpose of your hidden identity is obvious. The employees of various companies you visit will treat you and their job with its various duties quite differently if they are aware of why you are there. If they see you as merely another paying customer, they will treat you as they do everyone else. This makes the parent company happy and provides jobs for people to assess different businesses.
