Throwing his suitcase on the bed in a now familiar gesture, John loosened his tie and slung it over the back of a nearby desk chair. He took off his shoes and set them underneath the small shelf that served as a closet near the door. Throwing his key card on the bureau, he noted that yet another hotel room greeted him, with similar unremarkable furnishings as the previous two. This color scheme was more on the rose and pink side, while the last room he stayed in concentrated on brown, taupe and beige. Over the bed were large, framed prints of flowers in vases, and the smell of disinfectant lingered  in the corners of the room like smoke.

John was grateful for the opportunity to go and speak to another group of people on behalf of his newest book, called Lombard storage ownership, a description of his journey in to the world of building his storing business from the ground up. His book had been his finest achievement to date, aside from the business itself. Lombard storage ownership was surprisingly readable and actually ended up being more of a story of love, personal triumph and success than it was a manual to follow. Ironically, his book Lombard storage ownership had found praise in an unlikely circle, amongst people who did not have any plans on owning or opening a storing business.

In fact, Lombard storage ownership was becoming known by others as a feel good book because of the happy ending, a real life love story in the form of he and his wife, Allyson. They had met just prior to John writing the first draft of Lombard storage ownership. At that time it was supposed to be a manual for other entrepreneurs interested in getting started in the business. John and Allyson met by chance at a concert, a popular local band that was having some success in the national market. John was friends with the drummer of the band, and had been for years. Allyson’s brother ended up being the singer.

It would have happened sooner or later, they reasoned, but eventually their paths crossed, and when they did, the sparks flew and their love took center stage, changing and arranging all kinds of things, not the least of which was his book. After meeting Allyson, he had been so inspired by the feelings that their closeness had evoked that he had to express it, and the book ended up being a love story with a technical name.

Now, because of their love, his spirit was renewed, his readers, though somewhat different than he had originally intended, were expressing positive feelings over how his story and his eloquent expression of it had made them feel inspired and happy. John had never really thought about how much he enjoyed making other people happy with his words up until that point.

Even though he was in yet another hotel room, missing Allyson like crazy, he knew that this was an important step in his development as a writer. Around midnight, as John lay sleeping in front of the TV, a knock at the door startled him awake. He got up and looked out through the fish-eye lens of the small peep hole that was drilled through the door. He saw Allyson, standing there with an overnight bag, copy of Lombard storage ownership, a bucket of ice and what looked to be a bottle of wine. John smiled happily and fumbled with the lock on the door. This trip had its benefits after all.
