Does Quality Assurance Matter Anymore?

Each company worth their name employ highly paid and skilled staff whose sole task is to see that the products that are leaving their factory are up to standard and conform to the specifications specified on the package or manual. Not just one, most companies have several such personnel. These people should try their utmost to see that the goods or products are as per specification and leave the factory without any bugs or glitches, but still, there are many products in the market that are just not up to the mark. Why is it so? The dismaying fact is that the customers too do not bother. They take these minor glitches for granted. It seems that either they have not checked the product carefully, or, if they have, they are least bothered to complain about it. It both is the lackadaisical attitude of both the consumer and the quality assurance service department of the manufacturer that are to blame. When one has paid for a product they should expect that it is up to the expected or advertised standards.

Most of you use computers and require an operating system for the same. It is here that the appalling quality assurance service comes to the forefront. The operating system is supposedly beta tested for many months and yet, when it is finally released, it is full of bugs. Why cant the publishers beta test the software for some more months under all types of simulated conditions and assure that when the same is finally released, it is free of bugs? Sadly, this not the case and buggy software is now the rule rather than the exception. If you were of the idea that these publishers would give you a discount for using their buggy software, you are way off track. Rather they proudly proclaim that the same has a few minor bugs, which will be ironed out in a few weeks as soon as the patch is released. History has proved that the total volume of the patches exceeds in size the volume of the original software itself.

It is not just the software publishers who are to blame for poor quality assurance service . In a bid to jump the gun and out run the competition, hardware companies rush out with hardware designed keeping the new software in mind. Once the glitches in the software come to light these hardware companies too start shipping software driver patches for their hardware. In a few rare cases these vendors have replaced the entire hardware free of cost, only to find new problems when more updates for the software are released. This is a chain reaction and a never-ending story, which runs on for years. This is not what quality assurance service is all about.

Recently there was a hue and cry when toys, especially those for young kids, were recalled from the stores. The paint on the toys was lead-based which is injurious for health. This is sheer callousness. The people manning the quality assurance service department of the companies that manufactured these toys should know that kids, out of their ignorance, are bound to put toys in their mouth. The colors used for painting the toys should be non-toxic, but who cares. As long as passing on the buck and self-ignorance will remain, there will never be a solution in sight.
