Clayton is a beautiful little town at the foot of a mountain, and reasonably close to San Francisco. It’s a wonderful spot to be in, except on those rare occasions when steam is boiling out from underneath the hood of a borrowed truck, followed by sudden lurching, coughing and sputtering noises being made by the dying motor. Looking back, self storage should have been the first item on any mover’s to do list, especially when Clayton Self Storage is so convenient. But there are times in life when learning the hard way becomes the single best and only convincing educator.

Opinions about how and when to move aside, collective conventional wisdom suggests that anyone selling a home should first find a reputable self storage place, such as Clayton Self Storage, to store household items as needed to make the home feel less cluttered and more attractive to a buyer. Then when the real estate sells, the mover already has a unit to store the remainder of their household goods until a new purchase is made. Most self storage places have plenty of packing supplies and helpful friendly folks to give guidance to even the newest of movers, so securing a unit at Clayton Self Storage should have been a no brainer. It should have been obvious, like writing on a wall or a nose on a face, how important and vital self storage was to the entire process.

Unfortunately that’s not the way it all went down. In an effort to save money (a decision which later would end up costing so much more than the storage unit space necessary for the transition) pile after pile of personal belongings, boxes and furniture were stashed on to a borrowed truck. To make a long story short, eventually a tow truck came and most of the items were transported to their destination, pretty worse for wear. It took time for the stuff exposed to the elements to dry out.  Some things made it. Other things didn’t. It is impossible to over state just how much time, effort and money could have been saved with a simple phone call to the nice people at Clayton Self Storage. Hopefully, once a lesson is learned, history doesn’t have to repeat itself, and late night cell phone conversations can be left to ordering pizza or Chinese takeout.
