Becoming a Secret Shopper

Most people only dream of a job where they get to set their own schedules, be their own boss, and even work from their own home. Once in a while, though, a job comes along that fits these qualifications. And while there are actually many jobs like this, what most people want to know up front is if there are any strings attached, or fine print they should know about.

Being a secret shopper is one of the first jobs that comes to mind when looking at the above criteria. As a secret shopper , you do set your own schedule and in this way could even be considered your own boss. There are other people you work under, of course, even if you never meet them face to face. As far as working from your home as a secret shopper , well, probably not, as this is the type of job in which travel is one of the main things on the job description. But your home is the place you start from and return to at the end of the day, and it is also the place that you will fill out quality reports and the information that is required after you have been on a job.

In truth, a secret shopper will most likely never make huge amounts of money doing this job, even if you decide to work full time. But depending on the company you decide to work for, you could make some serious part time or extra spending cash to stash away for a rainy day or go on a shopping spree with. Most of the time a secret shopper will be paid on an hourly basis, many times being paid more than 10 or 15 dollars an hour. Granted, any single assignment or job will at most be around 2 to 3 hours, but if you do several a day this should not bother you. In addition to the hourly rate that is earned, many companies offer extra things, depending on where your assignment will be. Gift cards or reimbursement for any of the following are very common

    • Eating out at either a restaurant or fast food chain
    • Clothing bought on the job at a retail store
    • Entertainment and attractions such as movies, etc.
    • Gasoline

The amount of jobs that you decide to tackle depends on several things. The first is simply what you think you can personally handle. If this will be your main job, you will of course want to take as many as possible. If this is just a side job for your spare time, you will want to just take a handful of jobs. Another thing that affects the number of jobs you might take is the availability of these jobs in your area. Unless you are willing to travel some distance, you will want to seek jobs that are fairly local. Also, there is the competition to think of. There are other people working for these companies, many of them from your area, and they will be vying for these same jobs as well.

Applying for these jobs is usually very simple. Many times companies will allow you to fill out an online application. Usually hiring is done on an as needed basis, but as there are many various companies to choose from, you should have no problems finding a position somewhere.

I would like to know how I can become one of your mystery shoppers. I tried to get the information off of your sight, but there isn’t any place to register for your company.
    Thank you,
    Millicent E. pape
