Ronald Smith, a newbie on the phones shares his insights on customer service

Great customer service isn’t all about providing the customer with something to purchase. There are a lot of things that factor into quality customer service. One of the most import aspects of quality customer service is providing the customer with accurate information.
One of my trainers taught me that it’s not about memorizing the information you get through training, but it’s know where to find the information. Doing this job well requires that you pay attention to what’s on the screen. The information on the screen is to help us provide our customers with accurate info. Little things are just as important as the big ones. For example, the office hours. The customer might want the office hours for several reasons. Manager’s lunchtime, holiday closings or even notes regarding emergency closings are important aspects of the office hours. If we send a customer down to the store we want to make sure that someone is there. It’s the same when we are telling customers to call back within a certain time frame. Imagine how frustrated you would be if you had to keep calling because no one told you that the store would be closed.
Accurate information is a vital part of customer service. It insures that we are doing our job well and it lets the customer know that we care enough to pay attention.
