Who doesn’t enjoy shopping around for the best deals? Everyone does. Even those people that don’t like to go in and out of stores. Many people now do all their shopping online vs going into stores. There are some self storage locations that haven’t had phone calls or walk ins as much as they used to. That is because people go online and see what they have to offer and go to the facility that they feel is best for them. That is not always fair, but that is just how it is. So knowing this, what do many locations do in order to combat this shopping online phenomenon?

If a customer can go online and get all the prices they need for self storage they don’t need to go into the location. Well that is not always the case. The reason for this is because most facilities do their best to make the customer’s experience great. They will roll out the red carpet, give you brand name coffee, free internet, and so on. These facilities will never get the chance to wow their customers if they never come in. So some companies have walk in rates, or they do not put their prices online at all. That could backfire because a customer could just overlook them because their prices are not online.

When a facility does not put their prices online, they are taking a big risk so they will make their website look as enticing as possible to draw people in. Hopefully it works. If it doesn’t then they will not get the business they are looking for because people are shopping around.

Secret shopping is not a very difficult job to have. For some people they are very terrified because they are just not sure of their selves. Not everyone can make up information on the spot and they are scared they will be found out. This is where practice makes perfect. If you don’t take the time to know your craft or anything you do, you will not be good at it all. The more you practice the better you will be secret shopping.

Many people try to rely on their natural talent to go ahead and wing every presentation they are a part of. They believe they can walk into a facility or a store and go off of their natural talent to do well. That is very hard because the secret shopper really needs to have the information that the company provides. The company that is paying the secret shopper really wants to ensure what they want accomplished actually happens. So when people try to do what they want, it can pretty dicey.

One thing that people can do in order to ensure they say what they need to say, is find a friend and practice with them. The more you actually practice what you need to say the better. You have to get it through your head that you are there to shop a company for a reason.  You are there to help the company out and help them to reach the goals they were aiming for. They want someone to go into their shops or call their facilities to see how their managers would handle a real customer. Most companies will even reimburse you if you decide to purchase something. Now of course, you will have to make sure that the company you are working for will reimburse you before you make a purchase.

If you are serious about secret shopping then you must ensure that you understand what your job is and practice it. If you don’t know what you are supposed to do or say that could really throw off you looking like you are a real customer. On the flip side of that, some customers really don’t know what they want to say or do when they are in a store. In most cases though, the company you are shopping wants you to go into the facility with some confidence acting like you want to buy and it is up the sales person to sell you the product. You will be asked to make sure you pay attention to many things in order to grade your visit accordingly.

Take the time to pay attention and to practice what you are going to say and do for the company you will shop for. They would really appreciate you taking the time on your own to perfect your presentation. Every company is different and will have a different set of expectations. Just ensure that you know what you are supposed to do and ensure that you have everything you need I order to do a proper shop. You do not need to spend an extraordinary amount of time to practice your presentation. Eventually you will become a pro at shopping and you can cut back on practice time.
